Occupying force:Japanese Airbase on Southwest coast of Paramushir Island during WWII. The base was built by the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA). Airbase had 1200m of runways and had extensive defenses protected by the IJA 91st division. The base had a complement of Ki-44 Tojo aircraft. It fell to the Soviets toward the end of the war.
